Xiaomi has expanded its presence in India beyond smartphones with the launch of Mijia by Xiaomi, its dedicated home and lifestyle sub-brand. The move marks a strategic shift as the company looks to strengthen its smart home ecosystem and tap into the country’s fast-growing connected appliances market.

Mijia, which translates to “Mi Home,” is Xiaomi’s global brand for home appliances and smart lifestyle products. Going forward, the company’s home and lifestyle portfolio in India will carry the Mijia by Xiaomi branding, aligning the Indian market with Xiaomi’s global product strategy while continuing to operate alongside its existing Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO brands.

While the announcement may appear to be a simple branding update, it signals Xiaomi’s intention to become a much bigger player in India’s smart home segment.

The company has already built a sizeable ecosystem of connected devices globally, ranging from air purifiers and robot vacuum cleaners to smart locks, kitchen appliances, personal care devices and home security products. Introducing the Mijia brand provides Xiaomi with a dedicated identity for these categories, making it easier to expand its portfolio beyond smartphones.

The move also reflects Xiaomi’s ambition to position itself as a comprehensive consumer technology brand rather than simply a smartphone manufacturer.

India’s connected home market has witnessed steady growth in recent years as consumers increasingly adopt smart appliances and IoT devices. By introducing Mijia, Xiaomi aims to consolidate its growing range of home products under a single globally recognised brand.

The strategy is expected to create a more unified ecosystem where smartphones, tablets, wearables and home appliances work seamlessly together, offering users greater convenience through interconnected devices.

Although Xiaomi has not announced a complete product roadmap, Mijia is expected to become the umbrella brand for the company’s expanding home appliance and lifestyle portfolio in India. Industry reports suggest future offerings could span categories such as smart cleaning devices, home automation products, kitchen appliances, personal care gadgets and other connected home solutions.

For consumers, the introduction of Mijia means Xiaomi’s growing range of smart home products will be easier to identify, while also benefiting from the company’s established ecosystem and competitive pricing strategy.

As Xiaomi looks beyond smartphones for its next phase of growth, the arrival of Mijia underscores the increasing importance of the smart home segment in India and highlights the company’s broader ambition to become an end-to-end consumer technology brand.
