WatchBlocks, a native 2D sandbox-survival game developed by Formidable Studio, is bringing a full gaming experience to Apple Watch, allowing players to explore procedural worlds, gather resources, build structures and battle enemies directly from their wrist.

Released on April 16, 2026, WatchBlocks is designed to extend beyond the smartwatch, allowing players to continue exploring the same world across Apple Watch, iPhone, iPad and Mac. The game is currently at version 1.5.5, which introduces six procedural biomes, four mini-game modes, birds, five new character skins and additional creator tools.

The game combines survival and creative gameplay with a range of features, including mining, crafting, farming, boss battles, achievements and tameable companions. It also supports multiplayer, Watch Co-op, CraftBits and cross-device worlds, giving players multiple ways to interact with their environments.

Building More Than a Survival Game
Beyond its core sandbox mechanics, WatchBlocks incorporates systems designed to expand the possibilities of its virtual worlds. These include Gravity Block, electricity systems, teleport plates and collectible items.

The game also provides tools for creating and customising content. With Full Access, players can unlock custom worlds and skins, mod creation capabilities, Creative mode and Watch Console. These features extend the experience beyond conventional survival gameplay, offering greater control over how players build and interact with their worlds.

The game’s development is led by Keaton Rozema, independent developer and founder of Formidable Studio, which focuses on building games and applications across Apple platforms. The game’s music is composed by Hunter Shoemaker.

Free Download with a One-Time Unlock
WatchBlocks is available as a free download, with a three-day trial that includes access to the complete game. Players can purchase Full Access for a one-time payment of US$4.99, permanently unlocking the additional features. The model does not require a subscription.

The game supports Apple Watch, iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Vision Pro. The stated minimum software requirements are watchOS 10.6 and iOS or iPadOS 15 for the relevant devices.

By bringing sandbox-survival mechanics to the Apple Watch while supporting continued play across Apple’s wider device ecosystem, WatchBlocks offers an alternative approach to smartwatch gaming, positioning the wrist-worn device as more than a companion screen for mobile games.
