2K has released the first gameplay trailer for NBA 2K27, offering an early look at gameplay improvements, new features, and community-driven enhancements ahead of the game’s worldwide launch on September 4.

The trailer showcases NBA and WNBA stars, including cover athletes Victor Wembanyama, Caitlin Clark, and Derrick Rose, highlighting updated player visuals, gameplay mechanics, and signature moments.

2K also confirmed that it will host its Preseason Breakdown: NBA 2K27 Game Reveal livestream on August 18, where it will unveil the game’s major features, gameplay innovations, and mode updates. The presentation will stream across Twitch, YouTube, TikTok, and X ahead of Early Access on August 28 for Deluxe and Ultra Edition owners.

Among the headline gameplay changes is a redesigned dynamic Dunk Meter, which evaluates defensive positioning throughout an entire dunk attempt rather than only at takeoff. According to the developer, the system expands the success window on uncontested drives while making finishes more difficult when defenders recover late.

Defensive AI has also been refined, with computer-controlled defenders expected to contest shots more effectively and maintain improved positioning in online modes such as The REC.

The MyPLAYER Builder receives a significant expansion, increasing the total number of Badges from 40 to 53, including 19 new Badges. Players will also be able to preview attribute boosts from returning Cap Breakers before finalising their character builds.

For MyTEAM, 2K is introducing a unified Auction House across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2, creating a larger marketplace for player cards. The company also confirmed that auction winners will receive cards immediately without the previous verification delay.

Franchise mode MyNBA adds features designed to better reflect the modern NBA, including support for the latest collective bargaining agreement rules such as second-apron salary cap restrictions and the ability to offer no-trade clauses during free agency.

Meanwhile, MyCAREER and The City receive visual and gameplay updates. While retaining the central city layout introduced last year, the environment now features a nighttime aesthetic illuminated by neon lighting. Players will also be able to compete at a recreated version of the legendary Rucker Park, which serves as the backdrop for this year’s MyCAREER prelude, “Fire & Concrete,” as well as the Street Kings mode.

NBA 2K27 launches on September 4 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (Steam), and Nintendo Switch 2, with Early Access beginning on August 28 for owners of the Deluxe and Ultra Editions.

2K said additional gameplay details will be revealed during the Preseason Breakdown event on August 18, alongside a deeper look at the latest innovations across the game’s core modes.
