The line dividing televisions and projectors is increasingly blurred, and BenQ’s TK705i exemplifies just how sophisticated modern home projection has become. Marketed as an all-in-one entertainment solution rather than a niche cinema device, it combines native 4K resolution, smart streaming via Google TV, gaming-grade responsiveness, and BenQ’s renowned color calibration in a compact, living-room-friendly design. Whether you’re watching Netflix, hosting a movie night, or diving into a console session, the TK705i feels every bit a capable and versatile display.

Design and Build Quality
BenQ has clearly prioritized style and practicality here. The TK705i features a matte white chassis paired with a fabric-textured front vent, giving it a clean and contemporary look. At just under 4kg, it’s light enough for casual relocation yet solid enough to inspire confidence. Attention to detail is apparent — panel seams are tight, and ventilation is smartly routed to minimize heat and noise.

Setup flexibility is strong too. Adjustable feet allow for easy alignment, while built-in ceiling mount points and inverted projection support cater to more permanent installations. The overall impression is that of a thoughtfully engineered product built for modern homes rather than specialist AV rooms.

Smart Features and Setup
Running Google TV out of the box, the TK705i removes the need for external streaming devices. Apps such as Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video, and Disney+ are directly accessible, while Google Assistant integration offers voice search and control. The BenQ SmartRemote app further enhances usability, letting you manage settings from a phone.

Setup is where BenQ’s clever engineering shines. The 8-Way Smart Image Adaptation suite handles autofocus, automatic keystone, screen fit, and even obstacle avoidance with impressive accuracy. For first-time projector buyers, this means setup takes minutes, not hours — and the results look professionally aligned.

Gaming Performance
While many 4K projectors treat gaming as an afterthought, the TK705i puts it front and center. Equipped with HDMI 2.1 inputs and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM), it can unlock the full potential of consoles like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Input lag, measured at approximately 16.7ms at 4K/60Hz, keeps gameplay tight and responsive — a figure competitive with many mid-tier TVs.

BenQ also includes dedicated HDR Game Modes tailored for FPS and RPG titles. In practice, these profiles aren’t gimmicks: FPS mode raises shadow detail for greater visibility, while RPG mode enhances dynamic range and color tone to complement cinematic adventures. The ample 3,000-lumen brightness helps maintain contrast even in moderately lit rooms, and HDR10+ support gives games a convincing sense of depth and realism.

For fast-paced gaming, the TK705i performs admirably. While a true gaming monitor will always offer higher refresh rates, few can match the sheer wow factor of a 100-inch-plus, lag-free, 4K gaming image projected across your wall.

Video and Technical Performance
The TK705i uses DLP technology to deliver true 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) resolution with precise pixel rendering. Its 3,000 ANSI lumens of brightness allow comfortable viewing in ambient light, while its 98% Rec.709 coverage ensures accurate color reproduction. BenQ’s CinematicColor tuning plays a big role here, providing natural skin tones and excellent color balance.

HDR compatibility extends across HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG formats. Combined with HDR-PRO tone mapping, the TK705i produces punchy highlights and well-managed dark areas, even if black levels can’t quite rival those of laser or OLED systems. The result is consistently engaging — detailed, bright, and with a nicely judged contrast curve that flatters both films and sports broadcasts.

The LED light source promises between 20,000 and 30,000 hours of life, reducing maintenance needs considerably. Connectivity is comprehensive too, including dual HDMI ports, USB-A, USB-C with power delivery, Bluetooth 5.2, and Wi-Fi 6 with wireless casting via AirPlay or Google Cast.

Audio Quality
Audio has historically been a weak point for most projectors, and while the TK705i doesn’t entirely break that mold, its dual 8W speakers are more than adequate for casual viewing. Dialogue remains clear, and the midrange is nicely balanced, though bass is predictably thin. Users seeking a theatrical experience should pair it with a soundbar or Bluetooth speaker, easily done via eARC or Bluetooth audio output.

Verdict
The BenQ TK705i proves that a modern home projector can genuinely replace a television for most entertainment needs. It handles movies, streaming content, and gaming with remarkable competence, underpinned by strong color performance and an impressively bright 4K image. The addition of low-latency HDMI 2.1 support makes it a serious contender for console gamers, while Google TV integration turns it into a smart display that demands minimal setup.

Shortcomings are mostly predictable — onboard audio is functional but unexciting, and deep blacks remain an area where high-end laser models still lead. However, for its price and convenience, the TK705i sets a new bar for what an all-purpose 4K projector can deliver.

Price: Rs. 1,99,990
